An exciting day for crossing the street when the kids got out from school today!
First, a woman almost hit my four year old and me as she turned in front of us when we were halfway through the crosswalk (she had dark hair and was driving a white car). I was too stunned even to cuss at her. The crossing guard, who will not cross you if you don’t have a student with you, was like, “Whoooooaaa!” I would hate to have her job.
Then, someone who is much more important than the rest of us, especially the children, rolled through a stop sign so she could cut in the pickup line and block the crosswalk. Best part of that? She was DRIVING while HOLDING her sleeping BABY in her LAP and and drinking coffee.
You take your life into your hands at that crosswalk–both driving and walking. Why the hell would you have an unsecured baby in your lap?!
So then I was telling my friend about all adventures we had at pick up and she said that a man has twice cut in front of her and others in the kiss and ride. She gave him a short beep the first time and he got out of his car and yelled at her. The second time he cut the line, she recognized the car before she beeped. She wanted to avoid more yelling.
We ALL have places to be. Many of us are running late. People who cut the line, roll through stop signs, block the crosswalks, and drive through crosswalks when pedestrians are in them think they are more important than the rest of us, that they matter more than us.
Take responsibility for your lateness. It is not the end of the world if you are late–but it might be the end of your world as you know it if you hurt someone while driving like an inconsiderate asshat.
As my dad says, wake up earlier. My mom says get things ready the day before. I am still often late despite this good advice, but I’m not going to put anyone in danger because of my irresponsibility/lack of organization/laziness/ADD.
The intersection/crosswalk at X and Y is ridiculous and dangerous.
If any of the people who did the above are reading this, take your head out of your ass. You are not the only person in the world who matters. And put your baby in a car seat.
